IRELAND'S FIRST SOLAR-POWERED RACING CAR IS OFFICIALLY COMING TOGETHER!

On September 19th and 20th, Circuit Zolder in Belgium will host the iLumen European Solar Challenge (iESC)—the largest solar endurance race in Europe. We at Welditz are incredibly proud to partner with Dublin City University (DCU) as they prepare to take on the global stage. Our team has been directly involved in manufacturing key components of the vehicle, including the monocoque mould. The student team, led by Team Manager Rian Gill and Business Lead Abdul Hassan, is hitting some massive milestones as they enter the final stretch. The project is inspired by the iconic EJ191 livery and supported by the Eddie Jordan Foundation. The blue and green colour scheme pays tribute to one of Ireland’s most recognisable motorsport legacies as they prepare to carry the Irish tricolour into their first international competition.

Technical Progress: The solar array DC/DC converters are successfully tested, the driver dashboard interface is live, and the main solar array has arrived. The team aims to have the car driving in the coming weeks!

Award-Winning Innovation: Rian Gill’s final year engineering project on "Dynamic Position Control of an Aerodynamic Feature (Sail) to Increase Energy Efficiency" just won the overall Best Engineering Project Award at the DCU Expo, selected by Intel! We recently hosted the DCU team at our facility in Carndonagh, County Donegal, to give them a firsthand look at the manufacturing process. The energy and talent of these students is inspiring. Come September, everyone at Welditz will be shouting the loudest for Team DCU!
